How anger affects our body -
Extra adrenaline is secreted
Blood pressure rises
The sympathetic nervous system diverts blood from the liver, stomach and intestines to the heart, central nervous system and muscles
Digestion is suspended
Glucose is freed from reserves in our liver to provide energy for action
Cortisol production is increased which depresses the immune system
Men have an increased supply of the hormone testosterone
The spleen contracts and discharges its chemicals into the blood
At the same time, thinking becomes more primitive, and modern intelligence, a significant part of what makes us human, disappears. It is a primal, energised state, similar in many ways to sexual arousal, so it can be quite addictive.
The first step is to find out what is causing the angry behaviour. Anger doesn't just happen; it is a response to something in the environment. So, what is triggering it? Stress, the need for control, low self esteem? Or perhaps the person may not have learned the skills of negotiation or compromise; maybe it is related to previous traumatic events that need to be de-traumatized? If so, we can help you de-traumatize the memories, through guided imagery. This will help you to learn how to mange your emotional states once they begin and rehearse staying calm in situations which previously caused angry outbursts.
"Speak when you're angry - and you will make the best speech you will ever regret"

"In the march towards truth, anger, selfishness, hatred etc., naturally give way, for otherwise truth would be impossible to attain. A man who is swayed by passions may have good enough intentions, may be truthful in word, but he will never find the truth"
- Gandhi
